Windows Firewall Notifier is a free program which can help block outboard connections through the Windows Firewall. Unfortunately, Microsoft's firewall in Windows isn't necessarily capable of letting you know when something is happening and thus this program can give you more control.

This program is fully portable, meaning that installation is not required. Once running, Windows Firewall Notifier will activate the built-in firewall and initially block connections until you allow them. The tool also allows you to view current connections and take action if necessary.

Windows Firewall Notifier is easy-to-use, despite several of the columns in its main interface which many wouldn't understand. The actual notifications can allow connections, block them or just skip all. For advanced users, there is the possibility to configure notifications.

Due to its reliance on the built-in firewall, this program uses little in terms of system resources and isn't a firewall itself: it just gives you more control of what you already have on your system. One unfortunate thing about this app is its inability to create new custom entries, you're just able to block connections that have already taken place.

Overall, the functionality of Windows Firewall Notifier is just what most people would require although it isn't as advanced as some other more complete products available.
